Buchan was used as an Army Air Corps emergency landing strip back during WW II.
At that time the main runway was approx 2,166'.
in 1977, the airport runway was
reported by the State as 3,100'
1981  2,700' long
2007 2,480'
2016 2040'.
This shortened length is because the county has allowed Pine Lakes and
Alameda Isles to grow trees that interfere with normal runway operations.  Thus, a displaced threshold making the pilots land shorter and shorter.  But in reality there is a 3,100 runway if it were clear of end of runway obstructions and homes.  The crosswind runway 5/23 is totally shut down for any takeoffs or landings.

The oldest house on the airport was built in the 70's.  It was first owned by Bob Hibschman, a realtor who led the charge to save the airport in 1973.
